How do translation earbuds work?
The earbuds connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth. The SITranslate app recognises the spoken language and translates it, and the earbuds play the translation directly into your ear.
Earbuds, smartphone and app work together
To use translation earbuds, you need three things: the earbuds, your smartphone and the SITranslate app. The app is available for iOS and Android and is free for buyers of the earbuds. The earbuds connect wirelessly to the smartphone via Bluetooth, with a range of about 10 metres (manufacturer's figure).
Good to know: the app does the translating, not the earbuds themselves. The earbuds deliver the result straight to your ear. That is why your smartphone needs to be with you while you translate.
How to start a translation
In the app, you choose the two languages, for example German and Spanish, and start the translation. The app recognises what is being said and translates it. You hear the translation in the earbud.
English also works offline, further languages can be downloaded as offline packs. The rest need an internet connection, meaning Wi-Fi or mobile data on the smartphone.
Each person wears one earbud
In a conversation, each person wears one earbud. That way you understand each other, and one set is enough for two people. For music, you wear both earbuds.
The open earbud design is comfortable to wear, sits securely and does not press.
